CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that Sean Corrigan, 24, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for killing a man, 56, shooting another man, 59, and pistol-whipping a woman, 57, at a Fourth of July cookout last summer.

On July 4, 2020, Corrigan and several others attended a backyard cookout at a neighbor’s residence on West 152nd Street near Schuyler Avenue in Cleveland. Corrigan, who was intoxicated, became verbally aggressive with others at the party when the 56-year-old victim asked him to calm down. Corrigan shot him multiple times in the chest and hand. He then shot another victim in his back and pistol-whipped the third victim in her head. Witnesses called 911 and the Cleveland Division of Police (CPD) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on scene.

CPD arrested Corrigan and recovered a firearm, magazine, and other evidence at the scene. EMS transported all three victims to the hospital where the 56-year-old was pronounced deceased. The other two victims received treatment for their injuries and were later released.

CPD’s Homicide Unit conducted an investigation that connected Corrigan to the crime through DNA evidence, forensic ballistics, and multiple eyewitness accounts. DNA evidence collected from the recovered gun and magazine matched to Corrigan. Shell casings and bullets recovered at the scene matched the firearm used by Corrigan. Several eyewitnesses provided corroborating statements.

Corrigan pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • One count of Involuntary Manslaughter
  • One count of Attempted Murder
  • One count of Felonious Assault

He was sentenced today to 28 years in prison.
