CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that a Cuyahoga County grand jury has returned an indictment charging Deshon Baker Jr., 24, for shooting and killing Simajah Harris in December 2024.

On December 28, 2024, around 2:20 a.m., there was a group of individuals outside near Bolivar Road and East 9th Street in Cleveland. A fight broke out and Deshon Baker Jr. approached them. Deshon Baker Jr. then walked to his vehicle to grab a firearm. He returned to the fight with his firearm and shot Simajah multiple times. Baker Jr. then fled the scene in his vehicle. Simajah Harris’s friend drove Harris to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Cleveland Division of Police responded to the scene. On February 13, 2025, Baker Jr. was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

On February 24, 2025, Deshon Baker Jr. was indicted on the following charges:

  • Two counts of Murder
  • Two counts of Felonious Assault
  • One count of Having Weapons While Under Disability

He will be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center at a later date.
